Visitors to the Qunaba Waste Facility are asked to be cautious and patient with changed traffic conditions as essential works begin to upgrade the site’s ageing weighbridges.
The existing infrastructure has reached the end of its operational life and is being renewed to maintain safe and efficient operations.
Bundaberg Regional Council Water, Waste and Renewable Economy portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the works were necessary to ensure the facility continued to meet operational demands.
“These weighbridges play a critical role in the day-to-day operation of the facility,” he said.
“Upgrading this infrastructure now will help us maintain safe, reliable and efficient service for residents into the future.”
As part of the upgrade, the outbound weighbridge is currently under construction.
During this stage of works all vehicles must enter and exit the facility via the inbound weighbridge.
Traffic signals have been installed at each end to manage vehicle movements and allow traffic to flow in one direction at a time.
“Motorists will only be able to use the weighbridge when the traffic signal indicates it is safe to proceed,” Cr Bartels said.
“We ask all visitors to follow the signage and treat the area as they would any roadwork site where one lane is closed.”
Once the outbound weighbridge is complete, construction will begin on the inbound weighbridge.
Traffic management arrangements will remain in place during this stage of the project.
Council thanks facility users for their patience and cooperation while these important upgrades are completed.
