The festive season is almost close enough to hear those sleigh bells jingling and with it comes the outpouring of community and business support for the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.

The appeal sees Bundaberg Regional Council partner with local charities to fund hampers, vouchers and gifts for those in need to ensure everyone in the Bundaberg Region can enjoy a Merry Christmas.

Mayor Helen Blackburn said she was so thankful to be part of a community which was so willing to give its support.

“It’s fantastic to have valued sponsors coming forward to support the appeal because without their help we can’t support our hard-working local charities in giving back to those in need at this special time of year,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“A donation to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal isn’t just dollars, it’s a gesture of care, connection and community spirit.

“The importance of offering this support is so wide reaching because it means different things to different people.

“It might be the simple enjoyment of a warm meal for a hard-working couple, a family who can open a hamper filled with treats and experience the joy and wonder of Christmas morning together or someone doing it tough who will feel a little less alone this Christmas.”

The Bundaberg Business Women’s Network (BBWN) is the latest organisation to throw its support behind the appeal as the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal as the first silver sponsor.

The network has donated $1,500 to help bring the magic of Christmas to families right across the Bundaberg Region.

President Elisa Mayberry said supporting the appeal felt like a natural way for the network to give back and make a difference in the community.

“We’re a network of women in business but we’re also mums, daughters, sisters and friends and we understand how important it is to feel supported at Christmas,” Elisa said.

“Giving back isn’t just about donations, it’s about showing up, lending support and helping create opportunities for others.

“It’s something that underpins everything we do as a network.”

Elisa said the BBWN encouraged others to get involved in the appeal, no matter the size of their contribution.

“The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal is not just about money, food or gifts, it’s about sending a message that people in our community are not forgotten,” she said.

“When businesses come together to support initiatives like this, the ripple effect is incredible.”

Mayor’s Christmas Appeal sponsorship packages are available at bronze, silver and gold levels.

Community members and businesses can also donate at the Family level, a contribution of $100 that assists one family in the region.

Donations of any amount are welcome.
