A major upgrade to the Nielson Park amenity block is taking shape with the long-awaited refurbishment project entering its final stages.

After overcoming significant structural challenges earlier in the year, the project is now expected to be completed by the end of November, weather and resources permitting.

Bundaberg Regional Council Natural Areas and Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Gary Kirk said the upgrade reflected Council’s commitment to providing modern, accessible and sustainable public facilities for the community.

“Nielson Park is one of our region’s most loved destinations and this refurbishment will ensure the amenities meet the needs of residents and visitors well into the future,” Cr Kirk said.

“While we know these delays have not been ideal for park users, we’re excited to see the transformation taking shape and look forward to welcoming everyone to a much-improved facility very soon.”

The project will feature:

  • New accessible toilets and showers and improved layout following community consultation
  • Upgraded drainage and waterproofing
  • Energy and water efficient features
  • Anti-vandal and easy-clean finishes
  • Improved access pathways and external beach showers
  • A fresh, modern look inside and out

The Nielson Park Amenities Refurbishment Project forms part of Council’s long-term vision to enhance public spaces and encourage healthy, outdoor lifestyles across the region.

This project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through the Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities Fund.
