From the creative influence of our feline friends to the multisensory magic of the botanical world, there is much to be inspired by at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery’s new exhibitions.
As part of the Galleries’ Summer Program, the exhibitions ‘Cats’, ‘Furari Flores’, ‘The Crackle’ and ‘Pet Portraits’ open Friday 14 November, with the community invited to attend the launch from 5.30 pm.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts and Heritage portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the opening night was an opportunity to celebrate with the local arts community.
“We have four great exhibitions opening in November, including the main exhibition for our Summer Program, ‘Cats’,” Cr Learmonth said.
“Featuring over 80 artworks from institutional and private collections across Australia, ‘Cats’ will reveal how these curious creatures have long been a source of inspiration for artists.
“The opening night is a real celebration of art and creativity, and I encourage everyone to come along to join the festivities.”
Curated by Bundaberg Regional Galleries, ‘Cats’ explores our relationship with felines, from domestic companions through to cunning hunters.
The exhibition includes artworks from a broad range of artists including Charles Blackman, Luke Roberts, Barbara Hanrahan, Todd Fuller and the Tjanpi Desert Weavers.
Alongside ‘Cats’, ‘Pet Portraits’ in The Vault invites audiences to add a portrait of their own furry, feathered or finned friend to an interactive exhibition that grows with the creative input of gallery visitors.
Following the opening night event, on Saturday 15 November, exhibiting artist and author Karen Gardam will give a talk and book signing of her children’s book ‘The Crackle’.
“The Galleries’ ImaginArts space has been transformed to bring Karen’s book The Crackle to life through a range of fun activities for children,” Cr Learmonth said.
“At this family-friendly morning event, visitors can meet the author, enjoy a storytelling session and, inspired by The Crackle’s animal characters, there will even be a special guest from Alexandra Park Zoo.”
Young visitors can also get their passport to explore The Crackle Creature Trail, a hands-on self-guided adventure from the gallery to the zoo.
