Remote communities flood impacted, isolated

Authorities are working as quickly as possible to access multiple communities in the upper catchment of the Burnett River which have been significantly impacted by flooding and isolation.

Agencies in the Local Disaster Management Group, including Council, SES, QPS and Ergon, are attempting to access these remote and rural communities as soon as possible.

The SES will be attempting welfare checks today in areas with suspected isolated properties in Fairymead, Pine Creek, Bungadoo, Electra, South Kolan, South Bingera and Branyan however are unable to access some areas which remain cut off by floodwater, such as Duingal.

Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Helen Blackburn said residents in these areas were urged to reach out for support if they need it.

“We know there are significantly impacted residents in the Burnett River upper catchment area and that some remain isolated,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“Residents in these areas should check on friends and neighbours who may remain isolated and may not have power or communications.

“If you have concern about isolation or haven’t heard from someone you think may have experienced continued isolation and may not have communications, contact the SES.

“If you have any concerns for the safety or welfare of your neighbours contact Policelink.

“In a life-threatening emergency call police on 000.”

Report isolation concerns

If you or someone you know has isolation concerns report it immediately.

If you haven’t heard from someone who you think could be isolated report it immediately.

For non-life-threatening assistance, contact SES on 132500. If you have any concerns for the safety or welfare of your neighbours contact Policelink on 131 444.
