The Bundaberg Orchid Society Inc. Annual Autumn Orchid Show returns this Mother’s Day weekend, showcasing one of Queensland’s premier orchid displays in a brand-new location.
Traditionally held at the Civic Centre, this year’s event will be hosted at the Bundaberg Recreational Precinct off University Drive, Branyan, offering improved accessibility and ample parking for both cars and buses.
The three-day event will run:
- Friday 8 May: 8 am – 4 pm
- Saturday 9 May: 8 am – 4 pm
- Sunday 10 May: 8 am – 1 pm
- Presentations: Sunday 10 May at 1.30 pm
With entry just $2 and free for children, the show provides an affordable outing for families and visitors alike.
Bundaberg Orchid Society President Alwyn Heidke said the new venue would enhance the visitor experience, with easy access, improved facilities and refreshments available on site.
“This year’s show is shaping up to be one of our biggest yet,” he said.
“The new venue allows us to welcome even more visitors comfortably, including bus groups travelling from outside the region.”
The event will feature quality orchid vendors from across Queensland, including growers travelling from as far as Townsville, offering a wide variety of orchids and supplies for enthusiasts and beginners alike.
Visitors can also enjoy demonstrations, talks and refreshments, making it an engaging and educational experience for all ages.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said it was particularly encouraging to see the Society continue to grow and thrive within the community.
“Their continued presence at events like the Bundaberg Show enriches the experience for residents and visitors alike and reinforces the importance of community groups in preserving skills, knowledge and traditions for future generations,” she said.
Patron of the Bundaberg Orchid Society, Cr Tracey McPhee, said the continued success of the event reflected the strength of the organisation behind it.
“The success of the Mother’s Day Orchid Show is a testament to the vibrancy and strength of the Bundaberg Orchid Society and its dedicated members,” Cr McPhee said.
The Mother’s Day Orchid Show has built a strong reputation as one of the best in Queensland, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
Organisers are expecting more than 2,500 attendees across the weekend.
Beyond its visual appeal, the event also supports the broader community.
Proceeds from last year’s show enabled the society to donate $5,000 to LifeFlight, highlighting the club’s ongoing commitment to giving back.
With Mother’s Day on Sunday, the show also presents the perfect opportunity to find a unique and lasting gift.
“This is a wonderful chance to pick up something special for Mum while enjoying a fantastic local event,” Mr Heidke said.
The Bundaberg Orchid Society encourages the community and visitors to attend and experience the beauty and diversity of orchids on display.
