Roaring Twenties night to mark 100 years of Hinkler House

The Roaring Twenties event will honour Bundaberg’s own, Bert Hinkler, and celebrate a century of the Hinkler House.

For one night only, the Hinkler Hall of Aviation will transform into a celebration of the 1920s, giving Bundaberg the chance to step back 100 years to mark a special milestone.

It’s an evening to honour Bert Hinkler, the young Bundaberg man whose fearless fascination with flight carried him across the world and cemented his place as a pioneer of aviation.

The Roaring Twenties event marks 100 years of Bert’s former home, Hinkler House, which was originally constructed in Southampton, England.

Hinkler House now sits proudly alongside the Hinkler Hall of Aviation in the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens after a group of passionate locals led an extraordinary community campaign to relocate the house brick-by-brick and create what remains a popular tourist attraction for the Bundaberg Region.

Bert’s Hinkler’s former home was originally constructed in Southampton, England and relocated brick-by-brick to Bundaberg.

Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn said the event was a fun and special way for the community to reconnect with one of the region’s most significant stories.

“Bert Hinkler is part of Bundaberg’s identity,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“He was a local boy with big dreams who went on to change the course of aviation history.

“This event is a wonderful way for us to celebrate his legacy and the incredible journey of Hinkler House.”

Guests will enjoy a night of 1920s glitz and glamour with a prize for best dressed and live music to suit the era.

The event will also celebrate the official launch of the Bert: Out of the Archives IV exhibition.

Guided after‑hours tours of Hinkler House will give guests a unique look into the history of the home that was brought from Southampton in England back to Bundaberg.
