Hinkler Hall of Aviation is soaring high after being named a finalist in this year’s Queensland Tourism Awards.
Other qualifying tourism experiences from the region include Bundaberg Rum Distillery Visitor Experience, Lady Elliott Island Eco Resort and Mystery Craters.
The finalists have earned their place after an extensive judging program culminating in deliberations last week, with entrants required to reach a minimum scoring benchmark to progress.
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said the Council facility was a wonderful representation of cultural tourism in Queensland.
“We are so proud that Hinkler Hall of Aviation has been recognised as a finalist in the Queensland Tourism Awards,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“Our dedicated team is committed to preserving the cultural legacy of Bert Hinkler and making it accessible not only to the many visitors who pass through the doors but to our local community as well.
“These awards cover the whole of Queensland’s visitor economy and so it is a remarkable accomplishment to have reached this stage!”
Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Natassia Wheeler said being named a finalist was an achievement worth celebrating.
“Queensland tourism is built by people who put enormous energy, creativity and pride into what they do,” Natassia said.
“To reach this stage, entrants have had to demonstrate a high standard through their submission and the judging process.
“Being named a finalist means they have earned their place among some of the best tourism businesses and experiences in the state.”
The finalists will discover who has taken home the state’s highest tourism honours when the 2026 Queensland Tourism Awards Gala is held on Friday 6 November on the Gold Coast, as part of Tourism Week.
