Que Hee Street will remain open under revised traffic restrictions from next week, with the load limit reduced from 25 tonnes to nine tonnes following ongoing engineering assessments of flood damage to the road surface and culvert.
The section of road is a popular route for pedestrians accessing Baldwin Swamp Environmental Park and Bundaberg East State School.
The area was inundated during recent flooding and remained closed to motorists and pedestrians while Council crews completed temporary repairs to the road surface and undertook engineering assessments.
While the temporary repairs have allowed the road to reopen, further assessments have determined that the load limit must now be reduced to ensure the continued safe use of the road until permanent repairs can be completed.
The road will continue to operate under a traffic guidance system with a nine tonne load limit and a 40 km/h speed limit.
The road remains fully open to pedestrians and cyclists.
Council will continue to undertake daily monitoring of the road surface to ensure access remains safe for all users under these restricted conditions.
Restrictions for Que Hee Street access:
- Motorists under nine tonnes: Vehicles with a gross vehicle mass below nine tonnes can continue to access this section of Que Hee Street, with a maximum speed limit of 40 km/h.
- Motorists nine tonnes and above: Vehicles with a gross vehicle mass of nine tonnes or more cannot safely access Que Hee Street. The heavy vehicle detour remains via FE Walker Street, Ring Road and Telegraph Road until further notice.
- Pedestrians and cyclists: Que Hee Street remains fully open to pedestrians and cyclists.
Council recognises that these ongoing restrictions may cause inconvenience and thanks the community for its continued patience and understanding while permanent repairs are planned.
