Childers Neighbourhood Centre will mark Neighbourhood Centre Week in May by bringing the community together for a celebratory morning tea.

The free event will take place at Millennium Park on 13 May with the aim of fostering connection, support and belonging.

Guests will be treated to a slice of cake and can write a heartfelt message on a paper heart to add to a display.

Bundaberg Regional Council Community Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Councillor Tracey McPhee said local neighbourhood centres played a vital role in building strong communities.

ā€œNeighbourhood Centre Week is a nationwide initiative highlighting the role and impact of our local Neighbourhood Centres and the amazing work they do,ā€ Cr McPhee said.

ā€œThe theme for Queensland this year is ā€˜the heart of our community’ and I think our neighbourhood centres really serve that purpose across the Bundaberg Region.

ā€œFrom early years playgroups to craft gatherings and card games, neighbourhood centres are places where everyone is welcome, and this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that.ā€
