Spring into a new season of creative inspiration this September with Bundaberg Regional Galleries new program out now.
The Spring program celebrates local art across the region, with the return of ‘HERE + now’ in Bundaberg and a showcase of nature themed ceramic works in ‘Fauna and Flora Inspired’ at Childers Arts Space.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts and Heritage spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the new program highlighted the depth of talent in the Bundaberg Region arts community.
“HERE + now is a wonderful annual survey exhibition of local artists that is always a highlight of our program,” Cr Learmonth said.
“Now in its seventh year, the exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for the selected artists to be displayed in a professional gallery space and exposed to a wider audience.
“Coupled with ‘Fauna and Flora Inspired’ from the Wide Bay Burnett Potters Association, the galleries’ Spring program showcases the abundance of creative talent we have in the region.”
Cr Learmonth said the program also offered opportunities for amateur art enthusiasts to get hands on.
“The galleries Seniors month program, All Fired Up, is a beginner-friendly, free pottery workshop for over 50s with instructors from the Bundaberg Pottery Group,” he said.
“The participants will learn some basic hand-building skills to create their own clay bowl, which will be glazed and fired at the end of the course.
“As an additional event, everyone can return for a special soup night to enjoy a warm meal in their own creation.”
In Gallery One at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, a solo exhibition by Taribelang Bunda and Gooreng Gooreng artist Dylan Sarra will explore Dylan’s familial history as it is interwoven with the region’s colonial narrative.
Titled ‘_land’, Dylan developed the exhibition while undertaking a First Nations Fellowship at Queensland Museum and the resulting show signals a new direction in his arts practice.
Cr Learmonth said the exhibition’s artist talk would give audiences an opportunity to learn more about Dylan’s artistic career and strong ties to the Bundaberg Region.
“Dylan is known for his thoughtful and engaging conversations about his journey as an artist,” he said.
“The artist talk with our Gallery Director will give audiences a chance to hear more about Dylan’s story and how his connection to the region informs his art practice.”
The artist talk with Dylan Sarra is on Wednesday 29 October.
