Bundaberg Regional Council is providing support to flood impacted residential properties with free kerbside hard waste collection and free hard waste disposal.
The kerbside hard waste collection service is to provide practical support for residents who cannot remove flood-related waste themselves. It will help to make homes safe, habitable and accessible.
Some insurance providers advise residents not to move household flood waste until insurance assessments are completed. Please check insurance requirements before disposing of items.
Council estimates there are about 170 eligible impacted properties which experienced floodwater inundation from the Queensland Monsoon Trough, Cyclone Koji and Severe Weather event this week.
Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Chair Mayor Helen Blackburn said the free waste collection and disposal was available for flood impacted waste from within and immediately around homes.
“We will undertake kerbside collection of flood impacted waste and this will only take place at properties which have been confirmed and verified to have had floodwater inundation,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“At this point in time we believe there is about 170 eligible homes and we have listed the street locations where we will be undertaking kerbside collection.
“Residents can also take their flood impacted residential waste to any waste facility for free disposal provided they can provide proof of residency at an eligible flood impacted property.
“We are unable to support the kerbside collection of commercial waste for flood impacted properties however free commercial waste disposal is available at the Bundaberg and Qunaba facilities.”
Commercial properties can also seek support through their insurer and the Department of Trade, Employment and Training if needed.
All commercial hard waste should be directed to the Bundaberg and Qunaba Waste Facilities. Both the Bundaberg and Qunaba Waste Facilities will have extended hours from 6 am until 6 pm until Sunday 15 March 2026.
The Meadowvale Waste Facility will have extended hours from 7 am to 5 pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday to support domestic waste disposal for flood impacted properties.
Residents who have not been flood impacted are asked to delay any waste disposals where possible as the flood recovery is expected to significantly impact waste facility demand.
Free kerbside hard waste collection for flood impacted homes
- Collections will commence on Saturday 14 March 2026 for one week.
- Collections will begin in the Bundaberg North, Central and East and move through flood impacted areas. Crews will conduct two sweeps of the eligible impacted areas within the one week period to Friday 20 March 2026.
- Only flood-related hard waste associated with the Queensland Monsoon Trough, Cyclone Koji and Severe Weather event commencing 10 March 2026 will be collected.
- Collection only applies to flood-related hard waste that comes from inside and immediately outside the home.
- All waste should be separated for collection.
- Hazardous waste including chemicals, batteries, anything containing a battery, paint, gas (LPG) bottles, oil, asbestos, explosives, ammunition will not be collected as part of kerbside collection and must be taken to a waste facility for free disposal.
- Tyres are ineligible for kerbside collection and free waste disposal.
- Traffic control and machinery will be in use for waste collection. Be mindful of waste placement and ensure:
– It is safe and easy to access
