It’s Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) with the Gin Gin and Childers Neighbourhood Centres hosting pop-up stalls at local markets to encourage community connection.
Funded by the Queensland Government’s 2025 QMHW Community Events Grant Program, the Meeting Mates at the Markets stalls will encourage visitors to slow down, have a chat and access support resources.
Both events will take place on Saturday 11 October at the Gin Gin and Apple Tree Creek Markets.
Bundaberg Regional Council Community Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Councillor Tracey McPhee said the stalls aimed to foster community connection and engagement.
“Queensland Mental Health Week is all about encouraging each of us to think about our mental health in our everyday lives,” Cr McPhee said.
“Whether you want to have a chat or just be part of a bustling community event, these pop-up stalls will not only shine a light on individual mental health but on community wellbeing too.
“Our friendly neighbourhood centre staff will be available to talk through different support options and there will also be some support dogs in attendance to show the positive effect animals can have on our mental health.
“Communities are strongest when people feel connected and no one should feel like they have to struggle alone.”
Queensland Mental Health Week
Now in its 32nd year, QMHW is a statewide movement aimed at bringing Queenslanders together to spark conversations, strengthen connection and highlight the importance of mental wellbeing.
Funded by the Queensland Government through the Queensland Mental Health Commission and coordinated by CheckUP, QMHW runs from 4 to 12 October and is linked to World Mental Health Day held annually on 10 October.
People across the state are encouraged to come together during QMHW through local events, conversations and activities to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing.
