It’s a team effort to make Bundaberg’s CBD a safer and more vibrant place to work and shop.
The Bundaberg Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, police and Bundaberg Regional Council are working together through the Safe Spaces, Thriving Places initiative, aiming to enhance community safety and confidence.
Feedback from the program has been overwhelmingly positive. Here are a few comments from a recent post:
- Thank goodness people are trying to make our city a better place. It is beautiful area with lovely historic buildings.
- Keep up the good work, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
- I think its great to see some positive action towards a good direction. Well over due, obviously, but its still good to see some attempt to move forwards. Keep it going. It would be great to see more community also trying to push a positive narrative and assist in getting our city back on track.
- Thank you There’s still time to share your thoughts.

Maybe it’s time we expanded what is considered our CBD? It’s a very small area for now a significantly larger town. Take advantge of the Talon Bridge location to expand busisness activity. Might also help in finding a tendor for the Base Hospital location once the new hospital opens.
Parking , or rather lack of , is the biggest issue right across Bourbong and surrounding streets. Thought the hospital was being retained for allied health services.
The CBD needs action right now! Not after discussion & reports are written & then debated on.
My husband & I have made a conscious decision to not shop in the CBD area anymore.
It is getting beyond a joke when people are to frightened to walk around there in broad daylight, let alone at night!
Personally I’ve been using a system similar to a Tithe to donate to charities but because I’m donating to charities I also use this as a tax deduction. If others would follow suit we could see greater support services for the homeless. Of-course don’t donate until you are financially well off yourself otherwise we risk adding to the problem.
There’s hardly anyone up there at night it’s empty & it always has been. What homeless? Theres like 2 of them. There is also not huge amounts of people sleeping under the bridge in queens park. Go and have a look & no I don’t mean someone cleaned them up they were never there in the first place. Nor were there any customers to warrant a night trade.
The police beat is a waste of money it may as well be a frozen custard/yogurt store. The sleep bus we already payed for is more then adequate to handle the demand for homeless accommodation. Now get on with the CBD rework.
