The Deli, a proud local social enterprise, is stepping up to run the café at the brand-new Bundaberg Aquatic Centre.
Known for welcoming people of all abilities into meaningful work, The Deli will bring fresh food, great coffee and good vibes to the exciting new facility when it opens to the public.
Executive Director Kahli Olesen said the business was founded under the IDSS HQ Enterprises umbrella, proudly creating open employment opportunities for people of all abilities.
“We currently operate out of our flagship venue at 31 Targo Street,” she said.
“In addition, we manage the Bundaberg Airport Café as well as the CQ University refectory which we started trading from earlier this year.”
As for the aquatic centre, Kahli said the team was excited to offer the same friendly service with great food and drink options available.
“The café will offer a fresh, wholesome menu with locally sourced ingredients, great coffee and plenty of family-friendly options.
“Think healthy wraps, fresh fruit, smoothies, acai, toasties and treats that make you feel good.
“Don’t worry, the naughty treats will also be available for those wanting to treat themselves.
“We want it to be a space where everyone feels welcome whether you’re grabbing a coffee after a swim, meeting friends, or just stopping by for a chat.”

Starting with a passionate team of 10 to 12 locals, including people receiving support and on-the-job training, The Deli plans to grow alongside the café’s success.
“We’re excited to bring our passion, quality and presence to such a vibrant community space,” Kahli said.
“The aquatic centre represents connection and wellbeing which are values that align perfectly with who we are.
“For us, it’s more than coffee and food – it’s about creating meaningful opportunities for people to shine in their work and feel part of something bigger.”
Kahli said the team was excited to be able to bring their expertise to such a unique space.
“[The aquatic centre is] a fantastic addition to the region – inclusive, accessible and community-minded.
“It’s the kind of facility that brings people together across all ages and abilities.
“We’re proud to play a small part in helping it become a daily destination for locals and visitors alike.
“We can’t wait to open the doors, share our food and coffee with everyone, and create a space that’s as warm and welcoming as the people of Bundaberg.”
