With the bell about to ring for the new school year, the Childers and Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centres are offering support to families in need.
The Back to School program aims to assist those struggling with cost-of-living pressures to help purchase items like books, stationery, uniforms, bags and lunch boxes.
Families with school-age children living in Childers or Gin Gin can apply for assistance with forms available from the Childers and Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre web pages or from the neighbourhood centres themselves.
Bundaberg Regional Council Community Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Councillor Tracey McPhee said the program was open to eligible families living in the 4660 and 4671 postcodes.
“While the beginning of a new school year should be an exciting time, it can also be a time of added financial stress for some families,” Cr McPhee said.
“This program has been successfully running since 2023 and is designed to help support those families to make sure everyone can look forward to going back to school with everything they need.
“This is not a one-size-fits-all program and following the assessment process, applicants will be interviewed by a Community Development Officer to determine what support can be provided.”
The Back to School program is funded through the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety.
