The Bundaberg Region is encouraged to keep an eye on the weather and be prepared, with forecast heavy rainfall over coming days creating the possibility of flash flooding.
The Bundaberg Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has moved to Alert status as a precaution while the weather system is monitored.
A tropical low situated approximately 115 km north‑east of Cairns is forecast to generate widespread rain across northern and eastern Queensland.
Early modelling indicates the Bundaberg Region may experience significant rainfall through to Monday.
LDMG Chair Mayor Helen Blackburn said the move to Alert status ensured the group was prepared and the region was ready should conditions deteriorate.
“While there is still uncertainty in the modelling, we know this system has the potential to bring periods of intense rainfall which could lead to flash flooding,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“Taking early action means we are well-prepared to respond quickly if the situation escalates.”
What Alert status means
An Alert activation level means the LDMG is actively monitoring conditions and preparing on-call service teams for roads, drainage and service response and working closely with emergency services partners.
Mayor Blackburn said teamwork and preparation were key.
“Our Disaster Management team is working closely with our emergency services partners to ensure we’re ready for whatever this system brings,” she said.
“We’re asking the community to take the same approach, stay informed and make sensible decisions if heavy and intense rainfall does eventuate.”

Residents are encouraged to take simple steps to stay prepared:
- Monitor updates regularly via the Bundaberg Region Disaster Dashboard: disaster.bundaberg.qld.gov.au
- Stay up to date with the latest weather warnings and forecasts issued by the Bureau of Meteorology
- Avoid driving through floodwater and remember – if it’s flooded, forget it
- Secure loose items around homes and yards
- Review personal emergency plans and ensure devices are charged
- Check on neighbours, especially elderly or vulnerable community members
