Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month
The Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre hosted a community sausage sizzle and candlelight ceremony at Kolan Community Park in partnership with EDON Place.

May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, with the community taking a stand at events across the Bundaberg Region.

The annual initiative aims to raise awareness and highlight support services available, under the 2026 theme ‘Together Queenslanders can prevent domestic and family violence’.

This week the Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre held a community sausage sizzle followed by a candlelight ceremony at Kolan Community Park and will also host a Walk for Awareness on Sunday 10 May from 9 am on the Tirroan Road walking track.

The Childers community will come together on Wednesday 13 May at Millennium Park for a free community barbecue at 5.30 pm, followed by a candlelight vigil at 6 pm to honour those impacted by Domestic and Family Violence.

Go purple to end domestic and family violence

Local domestic and family violence service provider EDON Place has led a series of events in Bundaberg, encouraging local businesses to ‘go purple’ throughout

May and hosting a community candlelight ceremony in the CBD.

The organisation will also hold a Walk for Awareness on Friday 22 May, with participants invited to gather at Bywash Park in Flint Street at 7.15 am.
