Food and fun for Neighbourhood Centre Week

Pluck-a-duck, mini golf, a hotdog station, barbecue lunch and more will be part of celebrations for Neighbourhood Centre Week in Childers.

Join Australia’s largest community-led lunch initiative as Childers locals gather to celebrate Neighbourhood Centre Week with a playful family food experience.

Hosted at the Childers Neighbourhood Centre on Monday 11 May, this free event will allow guests to explore their favourite flavours with a special barbecue lunch featuring a mini hotdog station and mini burger bar.

There will also be a range of activities themed around the Childers Show including pluck a duck, mini golf and horseshoe toss.

Neighbourhood Centre Week is a state-wide celebration aimed at uniting communities across Queensland and celebrating the work of local neighbourhood centres.

Community, Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Cr Tracey McPhee said the event was a wonderful way to kick off the annual initiative which runs from 11 to 17 May.

“The 2026 Neighbourhood Centre Week theme is ‘our place to connect’ which is only fitting for our neighbourhood centres which connect the community in so many ways,” Cr McPhee said.

“From free activities to information services to hosting support groups and agencies, neighbourhood centres provide a safe and trusted place for people to find support and participate in the community around them.

“At the end of the week numbers will be totalled to see how many people attended across the state so I would encourage everyone to come along and join in the fun!”
