Horn calls, lilting clarinet and strings – the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra (ARCO) returns to Bundaberg with sparkling chamber music from an age of elegance.
Bohemian Dreams, touring to Bundaberg on Saturday 29 August, soars from joyful Mozart and Schubert to the freshness of Bohemian composers like Franz Krommer and Giovanni Punto, performed on rare period instruments.
Beginning in Brisbane at vibrant boho venue Plant Empire, the tour includes Gympie, Caloundra, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Maryborough.
The Bundaberg concert begins with a free Voyage of Musical Discovery musical talk, diving into the stories of music, composers and instruments like natural horn.
After the performance, attendees have the chance to meet musicians up close over drinks and decadent Austrian sachertorte cake at the Talk and Tea session.
The concert will also showcase guest artists Bella Canna Quintet and the Bundaberg Youth Orchestra, who have explored historically informed performance in an ARCO workshop.
ARCO’s co-artistic director and clarinettist Nicole van Bruggen said the orchestra was looking forward to touring the program of Bohemian composers.
“We’re excited to bring this gorgeous music for the first time on period instruments to Brisbane and regional Queensland,” Nicole said.
“And we’re thrilled to return and partner with so many wonderful local ensembles and music educators to celebrate unique Bohemian classical music.”
ARCO features Emma Gregan on horn, Nicole van Bruggen on clarinet, Holly Piccoli on violin, Stephen King and Darrin McCann on viola and Natasha Kraemer on cello.
