Bundaberg ‘All In’ for National Reconciliation Week

The Bundaberg community is invited to come together for National Reconciliation Week 2026, with local events offering opportunities to reflect, connect and participate.

National Reconciliation Week will be held from 27 May to 3 June, with Bundaberg Regional Council marking the occasion alongside the First Nations Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, Taribelang Bunda People Development Corporation with a flag raising ceremony in Buss Park at 9 am on Wednesday 27 May.

There will also be a free film screening of Like My Brother at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre, while visitors to Bundaberg Regional Libraries can enjoy book displays and jigsaw puzzles designed by First Nations artists.

These National Reconciliation Week events are in addition to the regular yarning circles Council holds with local elders.

This year’s national theme, All In for National Reconciliation Week 2026, calls on all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day.

Bundaberg Regional Council Community Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Councillor Tracey McPhee said the 2026 theme was a reminder that reconciliation is a shared responsibility.

“This year’s theme of ‘All In’ reminds us that reconciliation doesn’t happen around us, it happens through us and the choices we make each day,” Cr McPhee said.

“National Reconciliation Week encourages us to listen to understand, stay curious and build genuine connections through respectful conversations and shared experiences.

“When we show up without an agenda and take the time to understand one another, we strengthen relationships and deepen community connections.”

National Reconciliation Week

The dates of National Reconciliation Week remain the same each year, bookended by two key milestones – the 1967 referendum on 27 May and the High Court’s Mabo decision on 3 June.

National Reconciliation Week began as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993 and has since grown into a national movement involving schools, workplaces and community groups across the country.
