This DonateLife Week, Bundaberg residents are being call upon to take one minute to tick registration off their to-do list.
Most Australians support organ and tissue donation, but only 35% of eligible Australians are registered on the Australian Organ Donor Register.
Queensland is lower than the national average, with just 30% registered.
The new data shows how many residents in each Local Government Area registered as organ and tissue donors in 2025 and provides a comparison to the same period in 2024.
It also shows the total percentage of eligible residents registered in each Local Government Area.
In Bundaberg there were a total of 570 new organ donor registrations in 2025.
“There are currently around 2,000 Australians on the organ transplant waitlist who need Australia’s help,” DonateLife Queensland Nursing Director, Tina Coco AO said.
“For those waiting it can be a matter of life and death.
“This DonateLife Week, I’m urging everyone to please register as an organ and tissue donor.
“Then, talk to your family – let them know you want to be a donor – someone’s life depends on it.”
Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn said Donate Life Week was an important initiative that celebrated making difference in people’s lives.
“While most Australians support organ donation, less than a third are actually registered to do so,” she said.
“This is the reminder you need to take that action – it’s really easy to do and it only takes a minute of your time.
“I’ve personally registered 100% of my body to organ and tissue donation and simply knowing that I could extend the life of someone else is a really rewarding feeling.”
Right now, thousands of Aussies are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, and every year people die waiting for a transplant.
One organ donor can save the lives of up to 7 people and change the lives of many more through eye and tissue donation.
It only takes one minute to register as an organ and tissue donor at donatelife.gov.au or through Medicare.
Australia’s annual DonateLife Week runs from Sunday 26 July until Sunday 2 August.
