Up to 600 chickens will be adding eggs to a Moore Park Beach farm’s already impressive production and they’re set to live in an innovative mobile chicken caravan that will help support regenerative agricultural practices.
Bundaberg Regional Council recently approved a development application for 569 Lindeman’s Road, enabling egg production from hundreds of chickens on a farm that also grows sugar cane, peanuts and sweet potatoes.
At the heart of the project is the caravan.
The purpose-built structure will measure 2.5 m by 10 m and will travel between three designated pasture areas every four weeks.
This rotation will allow the free-roaming chickens to naturally fertilise and aerate the soil, improving paddock health while maintaining the farm’s productive output.
According to the development application, the mobile chicken caravan includes the following features:
• Capacity to house 600 chickens
• Rollaway nesting boxes
• Eight pullout shades/shelter doors on lockable gas struts
• Conveyor belt for egg collection
• Solar powered auto opening and closing nesting boxes
Mobile feed and water trailers are also included.
The development application states that the aim of the overall project is to integrate regenerative agricultural practices to the existing cropping activities at the property.
The recent approval means egg production can be added to the farm without impacting crop growth while, overall, helping to support long‑term sustainable land use.
