A proposed plan for a Health and Enterprise Precinct to complement the new Bundaberg Hospital has been formally adopted by Bundaberg Regional Council.
The precinct plan will be included in the Bundaberg Regional Council Planning Scheme, following adoption of the amendment at Council’s Ordinary Meeting on 28 July.
Council received approval from the Planning Minster to adopt the amendment, which incorporated community feedback raised in public submissions and state interest review comments.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said the adoption of the amendment was an important milestone for the development of the area.
“The planning scheme amendment provides a local area plan to guide the creation of a vibrant health, knowledge and enterprise precinct around the new Bundaberg Hospital,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“The precinct plan is supported by interconnected residential neighbourhoods, local services, community facilities and open space.
“Planning a precinct to support the new hospital will ensure the area meets the needs of our community and those visiting our region to participate in health services.”
The plan identifies the new hospital site as a Major Health Facility, with the surrounding precinct identified as a specialised activity centre.
“There is a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation already in place to facilitate the delivery of the new Bundaberg Hospital, which recognises it as piece of critical community infrastructure,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“The Health and Enterprise Precinct Plan ensures the hospital is prioritised when planning for road and pedestrian movements around the precinct.”
Version 6.6 of the Planning Scheme will commence on Friday 31 July and will be available on Council’s website.
The New Bundaberg Hospital Local Area Precinct planning was funded by the Australian Government Housing Support Program and the Queensland Government.
