As the days cool down, Bundaberg Regional Galleries is warming up with an exciting winter season of exhibitions and events.
New exhibitions will open in July, including a showcase of wearable art from the Australian Wearable Art Festival and a survey of contemporary pottery from the Tambourine Mountain area.
A full suite of public programs will accompany the exhibition schedule, with free events, paid artist-led workshops and opportunities for community members to grow their own creative skills.
‘A Wearable Canvas’ is the season’s highlight exhibition, featuring a collection of winning artworks from the Australian Wearable Art Festival, held annually on the Sunshine Coast and now in its sixth year.
The festival is a platform for exploration into form, structure, texture and colour, with artists using an eclectic mix of materials to create unique, wearable art pieces.
Exhibition visitors can view these remarkable works up close and see how the talented makers fuse art, science, fashion and technology.
The exhibition will be celebrated with an opening night on Friday 24 July and a gala event on Saturday 5 September, which will include a fashion parade of fantastical never-before-seen designs and a conversation with festival organisers, Wendy Roe and Helen Perry.
Also on show at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery from July will be ‘Shifting Ground’, curated by Larissa Warren, and ‘One Thread Many Loops’ from artist Mieke Van Den Berg.
‘Shifting Ground’ observes how clay can carry stories across time, featuring the work of 12 contemporary artists and historical pieces by pioneering potters from the Tambourine Mountain area.
In ‘One Thread Many Loops: the Encoded Materiality of Home’, Meike explores the domestic life of a mother in strong sculptural works using red thread and wool.
At Childers Arts Space, artist and educator Nita Rosher’s exhibition ‘Telling Stories’ pays homage to the hardworking people, local agriculture and vibrant landscape that surrounds her home in the Childers area.
During Childers Festival, on from 23 to 26 July, Nita will lead a drawing workshop, guiding participants to capture the energy and character of the Childers CBD through observational sketching.
‘A Wearable Canvas’, ‘Shifting Ground’ and ‘One Thread Many Loops’ opening event is on Friday 24 July from 5.30 pm at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery.
‘Telling Stories’ opens at Childers Arts Space on Saturday 11 July.
