Recovery work is continuing across the Bundaberg Region following major flooding in March, with Bundaberg Regional Council crews steadily restoring damaged parks, playgrounds and public spaces.

While many facilities have already reopened, several areas remain temporarily closed while repairs and safety assessments are undertaken.

The sites currently impacted include:

  • Lake Ellen Heritage Hub Playground
  • North Lions Playground
  • Lathouras Court Playground
  • Baker Street Park Playground
  • East Rotary Park
  • Avenue Street Park
  • Bundaberg North Lions Dog Park (Edina Street)

Floodwaters caused widespread damage across the affected sites, impacting playground equipment, fencing, shelters, barbecues and softfall.

Natural Resources and Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Gary Kirk said crews had been working hard to safely reopen as many community spaces as possible.

“Since the floodwaters receded, our teams have been focused on cleaning up debris, assessing damage and getting facilities back up and running for the community,” he said.

“A huge amount of work has already been completed and while some sites need more extensive repairs and assessments, we’re now moving into the next stage of recovery.”

Council is currently undertaking inspections, testing and detailed assessments to determine the repair and replacement works required at each location.

“We know these parks and playgrounds are well-loved community spaces and we appreciate everyone’s patience while this work continues,” Cr Kirk said.

“Our priority is making sure each site is safe and ready for families, residents and visitors to enjoy again.”
