Update: Bundaberg Waste Facility reopening today

A fire has brok out at the Bundaberg Waste Facility, on University Drive, forcing the closure of the facility this morning.

UPDATE: The Bundaberg Waste Facility on University Drive will reopen from 1 pm today following a fire early this morning.

The facility will be open to both commercial and domestic customers.

The Qunaba Waste Facility has now returned to normal operating conditions, with no further diversions required.

Some areas of the University Drive facility will remain restricted.

Residents and operators are asked to follow all signage directions while on site to ensure safety.

EARLIER: A fire has broken out at the Bundaberg Waste Facility, on University Drive, forcing the closure of the facility until further notice.

The fire started in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 2 April, and the Queensland Fire Department (QFD) is on site and has the fire under control.

However the facility will not be able to open as per usual this morning until the fire has been fully extinguished and inspections confirm the facility can be safely accessed.

Commercial operators and residents who are unable to delay their waste facility trip should use the Qunaba Waste Facility in the meantime.

Bundaberg Regional Council will update the community as soon as the facility is able to reopen.

QFD has issued AVOID SMOKE advice for Avoca and Millbank.

The warning states there will be smoke and a strong smell in the area for several hours however the fire is under control and there is no danger to the community.

– Stay away from the area. This will keep you safe and help emergency services.
– Do not fly drones around the incident. Drones affect emergency service operations.
