Access to Bundaberg North via the Tallon and Burnett Traffic Bridges unfortunately remains closed to vehicles and authorities say these bridges cannot reopen until safety checks are completed.
Queensland Police Service and the Department of Transport and Main Roads are managing the bridge closure situation.
District Disaster Coordinator Chief Inspector Grant Marcus said the bridges need to remain closed for the safety and the health of the community.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing but this work is necessary for the safety of the community and those supporting their recovery,” Chief Inspector Marcus said.
“We need to make sure there are no issues around people being electrocuted – water and electricity do not mix.
“Crews will be checking water and sewer systems on the premise of public safety and Ergon will be doing safety inspections on their infrastructure.
“There is no point sending people back to actually try and clean their houses when there is no water supply to the area.
“There is no point sending them back if the toilets and the sewerage isn’t working.”
“We will be working as fast as possible to allow people back into Bundaberg North.”
A further update will be provided around 6 am tomorrow, Thursday 12 March 2026.
Safety reminders:
- Be aware of electrical hazards, fallen powerlines, trees and other hazards.
- If power points, electrical equipment, appliances or electrical hot water systems have been exposed to water or are water damaged in any way, they must be inspected by a qualified electrician before use.
- Avoid floodwaters. Sewerage pump stations have been inundated and floodwaters will be contaminated.
