Dog owners and their four-legged companions can once again enjoy the Bundaberg North Lions Dog Park, with the popular community space officially reopened following significant flood damage earlier this year.
The park had been closed since March after flooding caused extensive damage to fencing and footings, leaving the site no longer secure for pets.
Bundaberg Regional Council crews have now completed a major clean-up of the area, removing debris and carrying out temporary fencing repairs and construction works to safely reopen the park to the community.
The space is currently operating as one large, enclosed area.
Natural Resources and Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Gary Kirk said reopening the park was an important step in restoring community spaces impacted by the severe weather event.
“We know how valued our dog parks are by local residents and their pets, so it’s fantastic to see another space reopened and back in use,” he said.
“Our crews have worked hard to clean up the site and carry out the temporary repairs needed to make the area safe and secure again for the community.”
Planning is now underway for permanent reconstruction works to replace the damaged sections of fencing and infrastructure.
These upgrades will include reinstatement of the internal dividing fence to return the park to its previous layout.
“While there is still more work to come, reopening the park now means the community can once again enjoy this important recreational space while we finalise the long-term repairs,” Cr Kirk said.
A brief closure of the park will be required when permanent repair works are carried out.
